Andy Abrams
Andy Abrams is a recovering lawyer. After graduating from Furman University (1975), he attended the University of South Carolina School of Law (1977) and practiced law in Greenville, SC, for seven years before leaving private practice. After obtaining an advanced law degree at the University of Virginia (1986), he began a thirty-seven year career, first at the College of Charleston (1986-2005) and then at the Charleston School of Law (2005-2023). During his checkered career he wore, literally and figuratively, many hats (which is fortunate because of his bald pate and love of baseball), including General Counsel, Dean, Provost, Executive Athletic Director, and ALWAYS Professor. Throughout his career in higher education, he had the perfect job(s), which allowed him to combine vocation and avocation. His favorite team is the Brooklyn Dodgers (not to be confused with those upstarts on the West Coast who bear a similar nickname), because it is very satisfying to cheer for a team that hasn’t lost a game since 1957. Andy, his wife, Karen, and their dog, Bear, moved to Davidson in 2023 after living in Charleston since 1986 (a story in itself), and they now split their time between Davidson and Stratford, Ontario (again, a story for another day).
